Menu Covers
Thursday, July 22nd, 2010I have always loved restaurant menu’s, and have collected them for years, and most of the time they will only allow me to have the paper and keep the menu covers as they of course cost more than the paper do not not blame them for letting them go with the menu. Every once in a while though a waiter will allow me to keep the whole menu, cover and all. You might think it a little strange to collect such items, but being an amateur chef, I love having them to remember the meals, and try to recreate them at home.
Cafe Menu Covers
When visiting small country towns especially in East Texas, I always run across a little mom and pop eatery that cannot be passed up. Sometimes their menus will be hand written, but inside cafe menu covers, and the cute thing about them is the advertising they sell on the outside and inside of the menus. The cafe owners will offset the cost of printing, and buying the covers by selling ads to banks, lumber years, dentist, and who ever else is probably a customer of the restaurant. These are especially unique and I will gladly pay up to ten dollars for one of these to add to the growing collection at home. Fortuneately where I live in Spring Texas, there is an abundance of family owned restaurants, near by to get my menu fix when not traveling.
Restaurant Menu Covers
Of course your national chain bistros will have buy restaurant menu covers in bulk and distribute them to all their locations, and those are OK, but do not have the original flare that makes the grade for the menu museum back at the house.
Vinyl Menu Covers
These are the most popular through out the diners, and eating establishments in America, and some have fooled me into thinking they were actually leather, but vinyl menu covers are constantly at the cutting edge of technology, and the look and feel of them are always becoming better and more attractive.
Menu Cover
When trying to horn-swaggle a menu and it’s encasement from a family restaurant, I always make sure and order some of substance from their menu, and then ask about the procurement of one of their menus. If the menu cover is really unique then that is where the bargaining will come in, and I do everything from offering a handsome tip to the waiter or waitress to just calling the manager over and explaining why I want the whole menu cover with the contents. Some strange looks occur occasionally, but rarely have I been turned down.
