Dining Table and Chairs

Most worthwhile projects or goals require a series of steps and perseverance over time in order to complete and achieve. Anything at all complicated requires preparation, know-how and perseverance through several steps over a period of time. That is also true about anything like determining to re-paint your wood dining table and chairs legs into black color. To re-paint your wood dining table and chairs legs into black color is not a single step project either. But here’s tips on how to achieve that in five simple steps.

Step 1. Prime your wood dining table and chairs legs.

The first step you will have to take is to priming it. This will be significant because you should use a latex primer sealer designed to stick to glossy surfaces. A quality primer over a clean, well prepared surface.

Step 2. Latex interior paint.

This can be a crucial step that needs your full attention. Do it right this way: You will need to paint your dining table and chairs legs with a latex interior paint in the finish of your choice. It is recommend that you are using a semi-gloss. The reason why is it will give you a better and more durable finish.

Step 3. Latex finish paint.

Things that you will want to avoid here are using an oil finish paint. The real reason for this is oil paint is not be able to penetrate as much as latex paint. Moreover, they are getting to be very expensive. And you will probably also want to avoid oil paint because a lot of regions will be forced by the EPA to stop selling in the next couple years. In addition to that, it is good to know that latex paint allows moisture to penetrate much more so than oil. The breath-ability of latex may help prevent paint from pealing when the moisture is drawn out through the siding by the difference in interior and exterior air conditions.

Step 4. Premixed black paint.

Simply to clarify and explain that a little, you are recommended to apply a couple coats of premixed black paint and not coat with a lacquer/varnish.

Step 5. Latex polyurethane.

In addition, should you have to clear coat, you can use a latex polyurethane. As it will stay completely clear. My suggestion is to use Benjamin Moore Fresh start All purpose primer 023-00 for primer paint, Benjamin Moore Ironclad Latex Metal & Wood Enamel 363-80 for finish paint and Benjamin Moore Stays Clear Latex Polyurethane as a clear(if you must).

In the end, for those who have stuck with the above mentioned tips completely, you will have succeeded and after this can relax and relish the benefits of your success. You can pat yourself on the back and congratulate yourself for having achieved it! You set out to realize your goal and you just succeeded! Now enjoy!

Oak Dining Table

Tuesday, July 20th, 2010

Because oak is such an elegant, durable (and sometimes rare) wood it makes sense to do everything that you can to look after it. Let’s say that you’ve just bought an oak dining table for your home. You want this table to last for at least 10 years (at the very minimum), but do you what you’re going to do to achieve this?

First of all, you need to make sure that your dining table (and the oak dining chairs that come with it) is placed in an environment that is suited to them. This means keeping it indoors (obviously) in a place where the heat is fairly consistent and where it isn’t too hot (anywhere around 70 degrees Fahrenheit is good). Keeping wooden furniture in a place where the heat fluctuates a lot is a bad idea, since the wood expands and contracts with the heat, often resulting in long term damage.

Now that you’ve found a suitable area for your oak table, you need to know about how you actually take care of your furniture. It’s always a good idea to use a table cloth and/or coasters (for drinks) to keep stains off of the table and to stop any rings from being left on there. In addition to this, it’s important that you dust off your table every few weeks (at least). This is not just to keep it looking clean and fresh, but also to remove the dust mites that linger if not properly removed. These dust mites like to breed and will eventually start to ruin the surface of your table by adding moisture to it. Although dusting is easy, it is something that shouldn’t be overlooked or forgotten about.

Lastly, try to keep your table out of the way of direct sunlight (either from a window or a skylight). While the sun won’t ruin your table overnight, it will slowly start to damage it over a period of time, so it’s best to try and avoid it whenever possible.
