Closet Organizer Versatility

Sunday, August 15th, 2010

Some people think that closet organizers are meant to only be used in clothes closets. However, closet organizers are an excellent way to organize any type of closet in your home and will help you itemize your belongings for easy retrieval and make it easier to put things back where they belong. They come in many different types for different purposes. The price range for closet organizer systems varies greatly so no matter what your budget is, you are bound to find a type of system to meet it. Discount closet organizers come in full systems and even simple accessories that can be very useful. The versatility of closet organizers is practically endless.

Bedding closets

Totally change how you look at your bedding closet forever, with the use of a close organizer. Make the days of looking for pillowcases hiding in a pile of mixed bedding a forgotten memory. Adjustable shelving can allow you to maintain proper shelf heights so that you no longer have to deal with tumbling waterfalls of linen due to over stacking. With the realization that linen is not the only item stored in bedding closets, most organizing systems also include several accessories for toilet paper, extra soap and other bathroom supplies. There are even extra accessories for holding household laundry care items.

Keeping like things together is key to keeping your home organized. For example, if you keep toiletries in the same closet as bath towels, your family will easily be able to find what they need and won’t go rummaging through every closet in the house making a mess as they go. When you buy new toiletries, they will know where to put them as well. This eliminates clutter all over your kitchen or wherever else you place your purchases when you enter the house. When no one knows where an item belongs it tends to sit around “homeless” so to speak and take up valuable space.

Food storage

Another great place to use closet organization systems is in the kitchen. This room is used more then any other so it is organized. A closet organizer in the pantry for example will help you categorize different food stuff making it easier to find things and also for family members to put things back in the right place.

Garages and work areas

Closet organizer versatility is not confined to the inner home. You can easily use a closet organizer to sort, store, and even display all of you items in the garage, basement, or any other storage and work space. The only limit is your imagination.

Mat or pipe systems are installed as a subfloor under wood, stone, laminates or tile flooring. The system has a plug, which is attached to an electric socket. To use the system, just flip the switch and the system proceeds to heat the flooring with electric power. It is a simple idea that heats the pipes and the air space between the floor and tiles. The floor becomes warm and provides warmth to the remainder of the home through convection.

You can choose which rooms you want it installed in or put it in throughout the entire house. This electric heating is simple to install and many companies that provide installation offer maintenance and support. Now you know the answer to “What is electric underfloor heating?”

Decorate your Home with Mahogany Furniture

Friday, August 13th, 2010

Mahogany furniture is associated with a sense of quality and class. Of course, there is a good reason for this; mahogany is likely one of the priciest and highest quality wood types available in the market, today. Apart from the furniture looking good owing to its reddish-brown wood color, mahogany provides for high quality and incredible longevity, too. As a matter of fact, well-crafted cabinet furniture of mahogany will last for a very long time, if not many generations. There are many families who pass down furniture through generations as a tradition. Most of the time, this furniture is made from very high-quality wood, like mahogany. Since mahogany furniture is extremely expensive, it is very important to know exactly what to look for.

The first thing you should consider is the various types of mahogany that are available. However, all mahogany types will be of superior quality and durability, therefore the decision will come down to your aesthetic preferences. There are two varieties of mahogany – African and South American. Between the two, the most common one is African mahogany, as a far larger volume is grown than its counterpart. The South American variety is rarer owing to the prevalence of excess harvesting.

One of the main factors to consider is that you must make sure the wood is really mahogany, when buying mahogany furniture. Owing to the rarity of this wood, it can be very expensive to make furniture with mahogany. While some people prefer to buy furniture items of faux-crafted mahogany, others confine their choices to aesthetics. To answer specific questions about the authenticity of the mahogany material, a qualified salesman will be the best person to provide the right answers. However, the authentication process is far easier insofar as antique furniture buying, as all antique mahogany items carry identification marks to endorse their originality. A special group, titled the ‘Mahogany Association’ was instituted in the early part of the twentieth century, to enable buyers differentiate between real mahogany and other wood stained to resemble it. Thankfully, owing to this group, virtually all mahogany made antique furniture come with decals that state the true nature of the mahogany material.

As mentioned earlier, mahogany furniture is a very expensive investment. Therefore, how can costs be lowered, with out the necessitating the purchase of dubious furniture made to resemble mahogany? The answer is simple; the best way to do this is to buy used furniture from such places like yard and estate sales, in addition to auctions online. On the other hand, if you have the skills of an experienced craftsman, perhaps, you could build some good furniture yourself.

For durable and attractive home furniture, mahogany furniture certainly makes for a sound and sensible investment. However, knowing specifically what to search for is a crucially important aspect of the buying process.

Fireplace Surround Ideas

Friday, August 13th, 2010

More and more people are buying newly built homes these days and a lot of the time, the designs are standard from house to house. If you have a fireplace in your newly built home chances are that when it was installed, they only put a small mantel overhead rather than a large surround. The mantel is much less expensive and you do not have to worry about matching a surround to the color of paint you put o the wall or the furniture you bring into the room. But, after you move in and start to decorate how you want, you might consider installed a fireplace surround.

Surround come in many shapes, sizes, and colors. Sometimes they are just an area around the fireplace with straight lines and a similar shape to the firebox. Other times, they are ornate pieces of art that arch about the existing infrastructure. The easiest thing to do is just to add the surround on top of the existing wall. With that being said, you need to make sure that the wall is clean and free of any bumps or imperfections in the wall.

One of the most popular choices is tiled fireplace surrounds. You can apply your tile directly to the drywall or painted wall. You just need to get some adhesive and a tile design. You can use whole tiles in one or more solid colors. Alternatively, you could break several tiles and make a mosaic picture. Just make sure that the grout is something that can get warm because it will right next to the fireplace.

Brick fireplace patterns are also very popular. A brick fireplace surround makes your living room or family room feel like a ski resort or a comfy mountain cabin. You can lay the brick directly over the wall just like with the tiles, but beware that the bricks will come out a lot farther than tile. However, there are brick façade pieces that are like tile because they lay flat against the wall and are not thicker than a tile. In addition they come in all the well known brick colors.

Tips on the Purchase and Care of Pool Filter Replacement Cartridges

Thursday, August 12th, 2010

Any homeowner with a cement pool in the backyard needs a functioning pump system. Pumps, such as those supplied by Pentair keep the pool’s water flowing. Filters make sure that the same chlorinated liquid remains clean and safe. Each of those filters contains a cartridge. Over time, as dirt collects in that cartridge, the owner of a pool needs to think about buying pool filter replacement cartridges.

When faced with the prospect of buying pool filter replacement cartridges, a homeowner must first determine the dimensions of the existing piece. At the same time, he or she should check for any part number present on that dirtied filtering item. At that point, the person who needs to replace a dirty cartridge should sit at a laptop or PC, one that provides easy access to the Internet. The online shopper can then find the part needed at a price well below the price charged in a brick and mortar store.

A good website to consult is www.unicelfilters.com. Unicel’s site has been designed to aid discovery of the ideal replacement filter. It guides the user through the process of identifying the details about the pool from which the replaced part will be removed. In addition, it offers the online shopper a wide selection of different parts.

Of course, sometimes a pool owner does not want to spend money on pool filter replacement cartridges. He or she might decide to clean any dirty filters. In that case, thrifty-minded pool owner would want to purchase a pool filter cartridge cleaner. Such cleaners, such as the Kreepy Krauly Cleansers contain a diluted pool chlorinator.

Due to the strength of that Cleanser, it should be stored in a sealed bucket and used on a group of dirtied filters. Each of those filters has been removed from a pump, rinsed to rid it of debris and put in bright sun to dry. At that point, it is ready for placement in the sealed bucket, the one with the Cleanser. After a three- to five-day soaking, the filters should be jostled in the bucket and then removed from the cleanser.

Following that operation, the clean filters need to undergo a second drying in the sun. Once dry, any of the clean filtering parts can be used in the pool’s pump. Their availability helps cut the costs of pool maintenance. It eliminates the expensive and time-consuming process of purchasing new parts.

Remodeling Your Kitchen Ideas

Thursday, August 12th, 2010

Kitchen remodeling is one of the best home investments you can make and is frequently the main priority when it comes to home improvement projects. The kitchen is the hub of the house making the area attractive and enjoyable to cook in and also serviceable is the main priority.  Owning a modern, well planned kitchen is strategic in getting the entire house to run efficiently.  Even if you just have got a small kitchen, you can’t let this constrain your kitchen remodeling plans.  When free space is limited the organization of the kitchen should be your top priority.

The best idea on how to implement your kitchen remodeling plans is to have your remodel plan by your side all the time and do not deviate from it. Remodeling your kitchen on a strict budget may be testing at times but you have to train yourself to reject any non-essential purchases and browse around for more within your means choices.  I like searching on the internet for the best prices on kitchen accessories etc.

In upgrading your kitchen, you may need to understand how to work out in what order to make the changes. Because it is hard to carry out upgrading all at the same time, you need to make a list of the modifications that may be significant to you. If the major thing you want to change is much more cabinets, then set aside money for new storage cabinets instead of purchasing a new kitchen stove. Learning how to refurbish the kitchen without needless expenditure necessitates that you prioritize the elements in your kitchen that need to be modernized.

A sometimes neglected part of upgrading your kitchen is selecting the right light fittings, from general light fittings for kitchens to lighting for kitchen islands.  Personally I think a pendant light or a bank of pendant lights look beautiful over a kitchen island.  Speaking of kitchen islands another way to save money and be Eco- friendly is to look around for refurbished kitchen furniture.  This can be an antique vanity or chest of drawers that can be reworked into a one of a kind kitchen island.

If your kitchen has a lofty ceiling then a single ceiling lighting fixture may not be adequate to illuminate the whole space.  Think about assorted kinds of light fixtures for different parts of the kitchen such as; below shelf light fittings, chandeliers, track lighting, a ceiling fan light or even pot racks have lighting in them.

Granite is rapidly becoming one of the most in style constituents for kitchen counters.  Whatever your personal style, there is a granite color absolutely fitting for you and your interior.  With hundreds of different stylish colors to choose from you will be spoilt for choice in choosing the perfect granite counters for your remodeled kitchen.

You will need:

  • 7 Styrofoam discs
  • Acrylic bright green paint with paintbrushes and spatulas

  • Letter stickers, depending on the name
  • Paint the discs evenly and leave until they are dry

Contemporary wall art project

Tuesday, August 10th, 2010

There are many contemporary wall art ideas that you can use on your walls instead of  buying expensive prints and art works that would cost you a fortune. You might even turn your ideas into a hobby, coming up with new ideas and putting them into action and then displaying them on your walls.

Contemporary metal wall art and contemporary wall art sculptures are something that you might have to spend some money on unless you have some talent as well as some equipment to get yourself going, but it’s best to start yourself out on the basics and then work your way up.

Working with Styrofoam has been very successful when it comes to making your own contemporary wall art. It sounds very basic, but there are a number of things you can do with Styrofoam from making a simple square covered with scrapbook paper to a retro looking Styrofoam wall clock which would make great contemporary kitchen wall art.

Mixing different textures together is a great idea. Here is an idea for a project you could get started with

10 different sized rectangles and squares of Styrofoam

10 different sized balsa wood strips to join the Styrofoam up

textured gel and acrylic paints to paint the Styrofoam

paintbrushes, spatulas and a craft wire to cut the Styrofoam if needed

spray paint for the wood

craft glue

  • Mix the textured gel with the paints until you get the colors you desire.
  • Paint the rectangles
  • Spray paint the balsa wood and when dry you will be creating a grid frame with wood of different lengths and the then the wood will be held together with a strong craft glue.
  • When the rectangles and squares are dry then arrange them on the wood, gluing them on top of the wood in a collage-like shape.

Tips On Buying Solar Powered Spot Lights

Sunday, August 8th, 2010

There are many different sizes, styles, models and brand names of solar powered spot lights. What kind you decide to purchase can vary depending on your outdoor needs; do you want something decorative for outdoor parties, or security spot lights to keep your property safe. The latter should be seriously considered if you have a medium to large size yard, patio area, and/or pool area, as having security spot lights would deter would be thieves and burglars from breaking in.

You can easily buy security solar spot lights in the range of $20 – $30 online. While there are regular stores, such as Home Depot and Lowe’s, that sell solar powered lighting, the prices online are always better; in fact, these stores also have an online retail site where you can buy the same things that are selling in a store near you, but for a slightly reduced price.

When buying online, you should always check the site to make sure that the shipping is free, with the purchase. Some online retailers offer free shipping but others do not. If you purchase from eBay, which does offer some good deals, you may very well have to pay for shipping charges. Also, many online retailers allow for returns within a specified time frame; check the website you are buying from as the exact policy differs from retailer to retailer.

It also helps to know what you want; different types of solar spot light have different dimensions; some are brighter and others are more suited for smaller yards and pathways. You can also find some that have a motion detector attached as well; many will automatically turn on the lights if it senses motion within a certain range. These kinds of lights are convenient in that they do not require wiring to set up; the distance at which a motion detector will detect motion varies from model to model.

Keep in mind if you do buy a security solar powered spot light with motion detector, you would need to keep your pets in a kennel or indoors, or they may set off the motion detector, giving a false alarm.
