TV Cabinets

Tuesday, July 13th, 2010

Thinking about TV cabinets took me back to the entertainment setup we had in our home when I was a child. We kept a medium-sized rectangular AM/FM radio on our kitchen window sill which came in handy for my Grandma to listen to while having her morning cup of coffee and reading the newspaper. Then we got our first television which I vaguely remember being a huge wooden floor model with a viewing screen that was about 15 inches wide. It could be said that we had a two-for-one deal with this television since the stand or cabinet was built into the body of the television set. To complete our setup, we finally got a Hi-Fi Stereo System that played all of our records and albums.

Back then, no one gave it much thought about having these electronics in separate places or areas in the home. However, times have changed significantly and so has technology. Floor model televisions changed into televisions with legs, and soon the legs disappeared altogether. This introduced the need for stands or cabinets to support the legless televisions and for a while, a simple table standing approximately 2 x 4 feet was sufficient.

Then televisions with larger screens became increasingly more popular until soon, the 25” – 35” screens outdid those immensely loved 12” – 19” screens. What about that 8-track tape player or Hi-Fi turn table that became CD players playing multiple CDs one after the other? Of course we have to have some place to put the VCR and DVD players. Let’s not forget the game playing units. And oh yes, the speakers for surround sound?

Now we begin to think about the convenience of having everything set up in one place. Today’s TV cabinets, which have evolved into all kinds of shapes and sizes, are designed to house every entertainment and electronic device created both comfortably and aesthetically with easy wiring access. In fact, these cabinets have changed so dramatically that they are now able to support entire home theaters in ways that will satisfy the unique tastes of the most meticulous furniture buyers.

Surfing the internet will supply more than enough information to help you choose the exact make and model you may want or need — just Google “TV stands
” or cabinets. I’m truly amazed at how far we’ve come!

Pine TV Stand

A pine TV stand works well with many design schemes, as the stain on the wood, can be altered to fit in with most other furniture pieces. This, of course, means that it is a versatile piece of furniture which can blend in to almost any home decor design pallet.

Depending on your spending budget, a small hardwood cabinet can cost five hundred dollars on average, but there are less expensive models that employ the use of man made wood and plastic veneers to accomplish a similar looking stand with for under the one hundred dollar threshold. Before buying any television support structure, get the exact measurements, and weight of the TV, and check the manufacturer’s specifications for limitations.

Finding just the right stand may be easier if you just buy the unfinished version, and apply the proper wood stain that matches the rest of your living room’s pine furniture. Remember, there is no replacement for quality, and even a stripped solid stand is going to cost more than the economy version down at the local super discount emporium. If you are only going to need the piece for just a year or so, then just get the low-cost version and live it with it for the duration.

There are other sources to buy used pine TV stands, and most people would never think to look on Ebay for such an item. Craigslist may offer a few acceptable stands for sale too. If you are not in a hurry, you can literally set up Google alerts, so when the phrase “used pine TV stand” and “Denver” pop up in the search engine results, then Google will email you with the information on how to find the item.

This is what is called planned shopping and is part of the frugal shopper’s online resources to get the best deals possible, and save precious time searching for their household furnishings.
