Contemporary wall art project
Tuesday, August 10th, 2010There are many contemporary wall art ideas that you can use on your walls instead of buying expensive prints and art works that would cost you a fortune. You might even turn your ideas into a hobby, coming up with new ideas and putting them into action and then displaying them on your walls.
Contemporary metal wall art and contemporary wall art sculptures are something that you might have to spend some money on unless you have some talent as well as some equipment to get yourself going, but it’s best to start yourself out on the basics and then work your way up.
Working with Styrofoam has been very successful when it comes to making your own contemporary wall art. It sounds very basic, but there are a number of things you can do with Styrofoam from making a simple square covered with scrapbook paper to a retro looking Styrofoam wall clock which would make great contemporary kitchen wall art.
Mixing different textures together is a great idea. Here is an idea for a project you could get started with
10 different sized rectangles and squares of Styrofoam
10 different sized balsa wood strips to join the Styrofoam up
textured gel and acrylic paints to paint the Styrofoam
paintbrushes, spatulas and a craft wire to cut the Styrofoam if needed
spray paint for the wood
craft glue
- Mix the textured gel with the paints until you get the colors you desire.
- Paint the rectangles
- Spray paint the balsa wood and when dry you will be creating a grid frame with wood of different lengths and the then the wood will be held together with a strong craft glue.
- When the rectangles and squares are dry then arrange them on the wood, gluing them on top of the wood in a collage-like shape.
