Carports Designs

Thursday, August 5th, 2010

There are a lot of different carports designs to choose from, and it can be a little bit intimidating in the beginning to decide what types of carports might be the best for you. This is especially the case for those of you who may be working within a finite budget, especially with the current economic climate that many of us are having to deal with. Thankfully, there are a number of different options and choices when it comes to different carport models and designs, there is virtually any kind of carport to fit just about any kind of need.

By far one of the most common types of carport designs that people often will go with is a single roof metal carport. This is because most people are only looking to protect one vehicle or set of equipment, and it’s also due to the fact that metal tends to be the most reliable material for this kind of structure. Usually you’ll find the most carport models come in two basic types of metal configurations, one of them is a steel carport design, the other is an aluminum carport. There are benefits and disadvantages to go in with either metal over the other, but steel tends to be a bit more expensive while also being longer lasting and more durable, while aluminum tends to be much more affordable but slightly less durable as a result.

Another option to consider is if you’re looking for a more ornamental touch to your carport design, you might want to consider going with either a brick carport model, or possibly considering a wooden carport as well. Obviously, going with a brick carport to match an older brick building or house would only add additional value to the home and also some extra functionality as well. However, if you’re like most people in the house is made primarily out of wood, you might want to consider going with a wooden carport which can be painted in shape to match your house.

Metal Carport

Most people who are interested in buying a carport have no idea of the important role that weather should play on your choice of metal carport roof.  Some weather conditions are either too extreme while others are too hazardous for certain roof styles.  When shopping for a new carport, make sure you speak to mention exactly where you live and the type of climate or weather you experience in your local area.  Snow, ice, rain, and wind velocity should definitely come into consideration when you are shopping around or customizing a carport to meet the shelter needs of your vehicle.

Popular carport roof styles include a simple flat roof, attractive gabled or peaked roof, and the highly effective arched roof.  Flat roofs are intended for all kinds of weather conditions except for areas where rainwater, ice, or snow can accumulate quickly.  Such events will cause too much weight for the support system of the carport.  It is best for you to choose a carport with a peaked, gabled, or arched roof so the excess precipitation can run off the sides of the structure.

Steel and aluminum carports containing a peaked or gabled roof are quite attractive in appearance and blend well in a residential area.  The attractive peaks tend to blend well with most home styles and they work well for all kinds of weather conditions.  Arched roofs are more industrial in appearance but they do work exceptionally well in all kinds of weather or climate conditions.

Another important factor that comes to mind when choosing a metal carport roof is the added advantage of overhead storage space.  Most consumers don’t realize that an arched, gabled, and peaked style of roof creates overhead storage space which can easily be converted and utilized for all kinds of purposes.  The extra storage space can be used to store outdoor gear, seasonal items, or yard and lawn equipment.  You don’t have to utilize the extra space if you don’t want to but the option is there should you someday have a need for more storage room within your home.
