Thursday, June 10th, 2010

Are you tired of hearing things go bump in the night when you are trying to get a good nights sleep, then consider purchasing a wireless driveway alarm system. You can actually set up a network of motion sensors around your home to create an invisible barrier of protection that will let you know when intruders are trespassing on your estate at night or during the daytime as well. Some driveway reporter systems have the ability to turn  appliances on and off when the motion sensor is triggered.

Unfortunately, people living in the suburbs of major cities and even out lying country, areas are not immune from home invaders and burglars. As the financial situation of America’s business economy worsens, more people will turn to theft and the police cannot protect everyone. The odds of the police being near your home when a criminal breaks into your house are thousands or millions to one. Therefore, it is up to you to protect your family and your property the best way you know how.

Installing a driveway alarm system adds a second branch of defense for your family especially when you are not there. If you already have a home security system installed, contact the manufacturer and ask them if there is an optional input that you can attach a driveway alert system to the main security panel. If that is the case then you and your security monitoring company will be notified when a breach occurs. Sensors come in two variations one is the hard wired, which you will have to bury the cables after you’ve run the sensors out to the area that needs protection, and second the  wireless sendsors that operate on  batteries and or a combination of solar panels that require only a radio signal to communicate with you in the home.

Some systems have advanced features, and they can even call you on your phone, activate a security camera at closed-circuit TV system, or alert your security company that you have trespassers or intruders on your property. Really, it all comes down to what your budget limitations are, or which are willing to spend on your family security and safety. By installing one of these systems you can realize possible extra discounts from your homeowners insurance policy, and you should call your agent prior to purchase to make sure that the unit you are buying will avail you to such discounts.

The installation of a home security system often involves paying a company thousands of dollars, tearing up your home in the process. What many people don’t realize is that there are alternatives to these systems that can be just as effective. Security systems are designed to alert users to an intruder. Outdoor motion detection units are an easy to install type of security device that tells users when people are approaching. This device emits a chiming sound when motion is sensed, transmitting the signal from the external sensor to the indoor receiver.

Heath Zenith makes a driveway alert system that consists of a transmitter sensor and a receiver. The sensor can be placed into the ground at any location, including driveway entrances and pathways. The sensor constantly checks for motion, sending a signal to the receiver once detected. The receiver, placed anywhere in the home up to 70 feet away, emits a chime when people approach. The sensor can detect movement up to 100 feet away in any direction. To prevent the chime from going off at every drop of a pin, the sensitivity can be adjusted as needed. In addition to the chime, the sensor will engage an incandescent light when activated, acting as a driveway light. The light can be set to stay on from 1 to 5 seconds.

The sensor itself is powered by solar energy. A solar panel on the unit absorbs energy and stores it in a rechargeable battery. No wiring is needed for installation, simply place the sensor anywhere you want. The sensor can be set to stay on at all times or just at night. The sensor assembles by connecting the plastic stakes to the sensor module. The receiver plugs into any wall outlet in your home. The sensor has a plug adapter so you can continue to use the outlet for other electronic devices.
