Buying a hand juicer

You might be surprised to learn that many people are choosing to buy manual juicers instead of electric ones to use at home. Surprised, because there are so many fantastic electric machines on the market these days. Why would anybody bother with a manual machine? The truth is that in most situations electric juicer is the best choice, however, there are several instances where a manual juicer is definitely the best choice to make.

The first of these is foot to producing wheat grass, and similar leafy green herbs. There are various reasons you might want to juice these things, the most likely being that you are on a detox program, or doing so in conjunction with a weight loss diet. Wheat grass, and many herbs are very rich in antioxidants, difficult to obtain nutrients, and dissolved minerals.

A manual juicer is best for these ingredients, because you generally only need to make the juice in small quantities. An electric juicer represents no real advantage, because you are only talking about making 20 to 40 ml of juice at a time. This only takes about two minutes, even working slowly by hand.

Another excellent application for a hand powered juicer is producing citrus fruits. Again, there are various reasons for doing this in the kitchen. Not only citrus juice delicious pie itself (or mixed as lemonade, or in cocktails) but it is called for in many recipes. Squeezing lemons or limes by hand is hard work, so a compact hand juicer can be a real help to have. The most economical citrus juicers to buy are hand-held models, which are similar in design to a nutcracker, that is they consist of two hinged handles, and a cone shaped sieve of for crushing half a fruit at a time.

Similarly to a wheat grass juicer, these hand powered gadgets are at an advantage over electric ones because they are faster and easier to clean out, and do not take as much valuable storage space.

Perhaps the biggest positive point to take away is that hand juicers are much cheaper than electric equivalents. A wheat grass juicer can be bought for as little as $20-$40 (the latter being top-quality stainless steel model) while a hand-held citrus juicer can cost as little as $5-$10.

If you intend to make very large batches of juice, an electric juicer will obviously be necessary, but for the average user, a hand powered juicer machine can really be the best choice.
